We got the notice too late to invite others to the party, but "gen!us" (their spelling), a cannabis delivery service in the Melrose/Fairfax district:
had an event to show off their new self-service kiosks.
"Customers can make their selection on the screen and have their product delivered within minutes from a licensed gen!us retail store."
The launch was on February 2nd, 2020, at a private warehouse in the downtown L.A. Arts District, and featured "a live skate demo, food truck, graffiti artists, DJ, tattoo artists, and fine artists" - which sounds to me like the most California thing that has ever happened. Participating brands included "Ember Valley, IC Collective, Heavy Hitters, Cann Beverages, Lola Lola, Good Brands, and Packwoods."
Packwoods' official site is
and is down, of course.
So the story is that they intend to deploy these self-service kiosks all over L.A. where you can skate up and order cannabis to go, and a delivery van then tracks you down somehow to give it to you.
###
A few parting thoughts:
Skaters and cannabis have a crossover? News to me! One would think that bike-up or walk-up is also permitted.
I haven't been in L.A. in decades, but the whole skater thing seemed played out way back in the '80s. Come to that, this entire story is from the '80s, minus the legalized cannabis now.
Given that 100% of the problems in cannabis stem from California, I wonder if faster and more convenience access is really what they need.
